The bloody attack in Moscow shattered the illusion of security that Vladimir Putin carefully cultivated for over two years since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine.

"The obvious path the Kremlin could take is that it's somehow related to the war in Ukraine. An immediate response could be an increase in drone attacks and ballistic missile attacks, but they have already escalated to a terrorist act," said Charles Lichfield, Deputy Director of the GeoEconomics Center at the Atlantic Council in Washington.
