Ein geniales Garage Punkrock-Festival in den USA:
http://www.ucalgary.ca/uofc/students...ums/Sleaze.htmZitat:
Garage Rock fans unable to attend Chapel Hill North Carolina's first annual Sleazefest can now posses the next best thing. Initiated by Southern Culture On The Skids frontman Rick Miller, and billed as Two Nights of Bands, 'B' Movies, Bar-B-Q & Beer, this full length CD and video showcase the best/worst the world of Garage has to offer.
Much campier than sleazy, this two nights of go-go cage dancers and retro guitar shell shock is a way-cool affair but is not entirely without its lumps. Both formats suffer from that hollow "live recording" sound. The CD includes a bit too much between song mumbles and twangs and the camera work is on and off annoying, zooming in and out at puke-neck speed.
The payoff is big however. Backwoods guitarist Hasil Adkins gives an all out amazing solo performance slapping and strumming his acoustic guitar, wailing and scatting on "Boo Boo The Cat" and later crooning without a care on "Leaves In Autumn". Dexter Romwebber, ex of Flat Duo Jets also solofies with jangly roots rock guitar and self-deprecating charm. As if on a mission from God, Hillbilly Frankenstein's Bunny Van Dyke shakes (on video) and howls as the foursome deliver their show-stopping brand of Garagified lounge. Southern Culture On The Skids don't even bother to wipe the fried chicken off as they slide through "Mudbuggy" and then team up with Adkins for a gawdawful noisy version of "Hubcap Hunch".
Extras on the video include go-go dancing tasseled lasses and doughy shirtless guys, Mexican wrestling legend Santo, and interviews with each of the bands. Particularly funny is a puppet interpretation of the Flat Duo Jets appearance on The Late Show. Dex Romwebber plays David Bettleman, wearing a large paper mache ball on his head and Sesame Street's Bert plays Paul Schaffer.
