Am Ende war das Ergebnis jedoch äußerst knapp. Harris hat derzeit nur einen Vorsprung von 56 % bei den „Early Votes“ aus etwa 1,8 Millionen ausgezählten Briefwahl-Stimmen. The problem with California is there is no separate verification of citizenship on voter registration, said Charles Bell, Jr., a partner with California-based Bell, McAndrews & Hiltachk, LLP, a law firm that specializes in election law. Applicants can check a box affirming they are citizens, and this is not checked against any other government database such as federal immigration records.

Die Zahlen sind von 2017, das Problem hat sich jetzt verstärkt. Und in Kalifornien kannst du dich noch am Wahltag registrieren lassen, wobei nicht überprüft wird, ob du ein Staatsbürger bist oder nicht. Jetzt ist es auch noch verboten überhaupt nach einem Identitätsnachweis zu fragen.
