Ukraine's new export direction on show at Eurosatory

Ukraine's efforts to recalibrate its national defence export strategy after severing ties with former partner Russia were apparent at the Eurosatory 2014 defence systems exhibition in Paris on 16-20 June.
Russia was Ukraine's principal export destination before relations between the countries broke down earlier this year.
Ukrainian state-owned defence exports and industry agency Ukroboronprom barred materiel exports to Russia in April, while Russia has pursued a policy of import substitution to overcome its former reliance on Ukrainian industry.
The loss of Russia as a defence industrial partner, and of 10% of its defence industrial assets through Crimea's secession, has led Ukrainian industry towards co-operation with western European and Asian partners.
